I'm posting here because neither Google nor the Fair website are very helpful on figuring this out, especially since I don't trust things like, "NO Drugs, NO alcohol." Really? What planet are you camping on? Not that I want to be drugged out, but I know that's not what happens on these sites. And no open fires, including candles? Not my experience.
The last two years I've camped at Shady Rest, which was nice but I'm curious about other sites. My friends and I want someplace within walking distance, with shade, and quiets down (like, people stop walking through your camp after midnight), but still an active vibe after dark. Less RVs and few small children a plus.
I know that Zumwalt's out (especially since the lake is closed, I hear), and Darling sounds pretty big and crazy. Any advice about other campgrounds? Or, anyone want to sell me on Darling?

Re: Camping off-site, really looking for advice
Sun, May 17, 2009 - 12:22 AMDarling has a quiet side, so you party when you want to party & sleep when you want to sleep. At least I'm pretty sure it still has a quiet side -- but no direct experience as I've always stayed on the wild side.

Re: Camping off-site, really looking for advice
Sat, June 6, 2009 - 7:43 AMQuiet Campground tends to live up to it's name. I enjoyed the peace, but wish there was a way to enjoy the party of fair some nights. I was unhappy when the bonfire was forcibly broken up Saturday night.
I'd like to be able to sleep well, but have the opportunity to play, too! -

Sat, June 13, 2009 - 7:42 AM...you can get in? I remember hearing they had tight security last year. Was I mistaken? -

Re: Camping off-site, really looking for advice
Thu, June 18, 2009 - 11:24 PMThere are several die hard Zumwalters. The nice thing is there is a shuttle bus to and from the campsite that drops you off in front of the Fair, -

Re: Camping off-site, really looking for advice
Fri, July 3, 2009 - 11:43 AMI missed out on Zumwalt, me thinks. It sold out; there are resale tickets, but I don't my friends to have a hard time getting a spot, too.

Re: Camping off-site, really looking for advice
Thu, June 18, 2009 - 1:46 PMI'd avoid quite camp. I had a friend who's tent was knifed open and all her money and food was stolen. Though, that is only one person's experience.

Re: Camping off-site, really looking for advice
Thu, June 25, 2009 - 5:52 PMWell, tix are all sold out for Darling's -- heard they were gone by June 19. Never happened before to my knowledge. Yikes! After camping there with friends every year for more than a decade, I have to camp somewhere else. Looks like it'll be Zumwalt this year. Beautiful place, but as a drummer I don't like having to be quiet after 10pm. Oh well.... -

Re: Camping off-site, really looking for advice
Thu, June 25, 2009 - 6:19 PMGoodness, I'm glad I got my tickets when I did. Though this could mean there will be far more people sneaking into Darling than usual. I know this last year it seemed like they were bringing in more security, but that doesn't mean that people won't find a new place to come in through.
