medical work?

topic posted Mon, March 24, 2008 - 10:25 AM by  Gypsy
Hey there! I have gone to the fair the last couple of yrs and would like to help out. I just don't know who to talk to and I hope someone can direct me. I have medical experience and just got all my red cross cards and my orthopedic surgeons card updated. I have worked in a med unit for the gatherings for a few years and have the experience to deal with just about anything that would come up at the fair. can someone let me know who I should talk to to volunteer? I will be at the fair anyway and would love to plug in.

Hi Gypsy.... Medical is handled at the fair through Whitebird. To volunteer for them in a medical capacity, they require that you be a nurse or paramedic licensed in OR. To volunteer for the crisis side of things, I believe you have to have some formal training in mental health issues (I work for the medical side, so I'm more familiar with the medical side). There are logistics people called "roadbirds" who don't require formal training and work as logistics support to medical and crisis teams. Here's the link to Whitebird:

    Good luck!

"they require that you be a nurse or paramedic licensed in OR." Or a doc, of course!! Point that you have to be licensed in the state of Oregon....

Curious. Do you know if they are also interested in having people do reiki/energetic support? I am licensed as a physical therapist in the state of oregon, as well. Thank you! Kristen
