the first year I camped inside the Fair was in '94. The second was in '95. then my friend gave up her booth and we never went back. Though believe me I would in a heart beat if I could. My second year we went as our honeymoon and even though we were working like dogs during the day the nights were so magical it made up for the days.

For me the most magical parts back then were the sweep, and walking behind that banner knowing that the fun was really about to begin. Second to that was the drumming, the midnight show, the music, the people, the everything else... and then drifting off to sleep to the sounds of everyone else doing their thing.

No having been in 13 years I don't have any current magic to share, but let me tell you what, I still lay under the trees at night in my own backyard and dream of my nights spent at the fair and I feel like a part of me is missing.

Enjoy yourself. Don't go with expectations. be open. smile. love. and enjoy.

    Peace.

There is something about greeting the dawn every day for an entire week that makes you absolutely giddy. Maybe its from sheer lack of sleep, and walking 10-20 miles every day, but I have never felt so good after not getting any sleep!

Last year we (at camp) were thinking about the actual placement and proximity of bodies. Imagine if you could have an ariel view (sans tents) of all the bodies lying next to eachother, in their sleeping positions....what kind of canvas that would paint! (halarious!!) How often do you get to sleep next to that many people in your lifetime??? If you are lucky, it gets to happen to you every year! :)

I really like coming off shift at 7 AM Monday morning, when the fair is over, and you know that as you crawl off to your tent, in just a few hours, people are going to start waking up and packing up. I know that when I wake up later in the afternoon, I try not to go into the 8, as there are cars everywhere and the vibe has completely changed, but I like knowing that the next 24 hours are mine! I like reveling in the magic that has sustained another fair, it is palpable, it permiates the very soil, the very leaves on the trees.
