This is my first time on this website.. I came across it when I googled Oregon Country Fair. I am very interested in going this year. I have never been, and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or comments they would like to give me.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: First Time.
Wed, April 16, 2008 - 1:07 PMI hear there is all kinds of shenanigans and tom foolery. Don't trust anyone to give you good directions. Your best bet is to just keep walking until you find what has been looking for you. If you look for something, your just going to waste your time. Speaking of time, did it ever strike you as funny how when you watch time, nothing happens? Wear only watches that are set at a total random time and always be the guy helping people out when they ask what time it is. Always read your map upside down. When ever your lost, always say, "Its right around this corner" and eventually it will be right around that corner. And if you run into any librarians, alert security right away! The last thing we need is this place all organized. The next thing you know, the whole place will be set up according to the Dewey Decimal System...they will just ruin the fair. So please, report all sightings of librarians to security right away. I hope this advice helps you, you'll need it...I'll need it. Now I need scotch...have a nice day! -

Re: First Time.
Wed, April 16, 2008 - 2:27 PMthere's nothing to it.
if it was burning man your talking about then.... that's a whole different ball game
my suggestions:
costumes of some sort
go nutzo with colors
it's a way to 'participate'
make it what you want
it can be dusty during the day
hankies are a good idea

Thu, April 17, 2008 - 3:03 PMFair, fair the lovely fair....can't wait!
I have been attending the fair for ten years, eight of them on crew. The best advice I can give to you is - STAY LOST!, Seriously, The best experiences of your life will happen while you are lost, plus you will find some really cool stuff. But pay attention to the little things on your journey. The artisans are amazing, the music bumping, and the food...well the food is devine. Really it's to much to take in one day or even one year, come Sat. and Sun. (and Fri. if you can) and then come again next year ;)

Re: First Time.
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 8:16 PMEAT LOTS OF YUMMY FOOD!!! Toby's tofu, Roll on Egg Rolls, The Whole Enchilada, Coconut Bliss, Ritas Burrittos .... Mmmmmmmm. I've literally worked 6 hours a day out there for the past 8 years just for food vouchers ... well and camping too.
I second the advice of Staying Lost. Good times and interesting people around every bend.
Go on Friday and stay late enough to catch the Fire Show in the lot by the parking area. Sexy hot fire dancers and a lot of humor too.
If you're down for the whole weekend go for the wristband ... the daily hand stamps wash/sweat off and we at admissions have to be stingy with the re-stamping.
Bring a toy - poi, hula hoop, etc. and play in Chela Mela Meadow.
Wear something colorful and fancy ... something that makes you feel uninhibited. I usually glue/sew/adhear massive amounts of rhinestones and feathers to my underwear and rock that during the day. Crinolines. Glitter. Good walking shoes as the terrain is bumpy and hard on the feet.
I'm so excited now. Hope to see you there!!!

Re: First Time.
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 11:37 PMIf there's a show you want to see, get there early. Some of the stages fill up fast (and to do that, you'll need to know what time it is.)
Visit the Ritz (when it's hot and dusty, a shower and a sauna can be just right)
Spend time alone. Even if your companion is too much fun, still, being alone allows for opportunities that wouldn't otherwise happen.
Get there when the gates open (or before) to avoid lots of traffic, and don't leave till the sweep comes to you. Soak up all you can get.

Re: First Time.
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 6:32 PMI have no business here, i know nothing of the fair. But, since you asked, i ask: "Are you visiting the OCF as a day-time visitor or as a dedicated slave to our feudal hierarchical all-entrapping web??" If you know the difference you are probably the latter. If so, you will be told what to do by no less than hundreds of the similarly dedicated enslaved.
If you are the former, then my (as i mentioned) completely meaningless advice would be to: purchase a three day pass online, make reservations at one of the local campgrounds (the lakes are nice) near the site, be prepared for really long days of tremendous fun and merriment, through proper pre-purchasing of all commodities, foods, beverages at the not at all conveniently located Fred Meyers, P&C, etc. etc. and so forth. And then click your special heels together and say you believe in magic and miracles. Sometimes that really works.
