Who else will be at Darling's this year?

What is your favorite act at this years fair?

Wow the fair is a short 4 weeks away and finally all of the schedules are up on the web site. I have been going to OCF for over two decades and I must admit that it is easy to get into a rut of going to the same shows every year.
So I would love to hear about a specific show that you are looking forward to.
I will start, a couple of years ago I caught a Chris Chandler show, he does a eclectic act of political/slice of life/stream of consciencnous using poetry, monologue and folk songs. His commentary is often cutting and humorous and always poignant.
I would love to hear what shows other people are looking forward to.
Here is the web site for the entertainment schedules.

Any vendors needing help still?

I realize this is the mother load to be asking for, but I have attended the fair for years and never been able to get into the evening festivities. Any suggestions? Any possible way there are vendors still looking to get help for selling at their booths?...I can get the references necessary to prove me worthy of greatness.

Blessings...

I may have some quick errands to run in Eug before heading out to the site, which you could come along with, or hang in a cafe whilst I run around.

Hello, Any Runners?!- Keeping up on training while at the OCF

In past years I have seen a few (a VERY few) dedicated runners at the OCF. I have a half marathon that I am training for that takes place on August 17. I am already a bit behind in my training and can't afford to miss any more runs. Does anyone know of any other 'Fair Family' runners that might like to go for a couple of runs between July 9th - 13th?

March Fourth Marching Band won't be at the Fair this year...

I won't get into the details of why the band won't be at the fair this year, but I will say that if you've been counting on seeing us there, you better make other plans and get your butt to Portland. Our last public show in town before the fair is June 6th... don't miss it. Our LA guests Mutaytor will be bringing as much madness as the midnight show, and you know you can count on M4 to get your booty going!
*THIS IS AN ALL AGES EVENT

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What do you get when you combine 100 tribal drums, live-mixed electronica, fire performers, hoop dancers, aerial artists, John Avila (Oingo Boingo) on bass, Steve Reid (Rippingtons/Supertramp) on percussion, a live horn section, Chinese parade lions, giant screen visuals and a bevy of interactive dancers and performers? The Mutaytor is part hip-grinding techno-retro-funk, part audience-interactive post-modern circus. The act takes drastically advanced elements of the Grateful Dead, Parliament-Funkadelic, the Crystal Method, Louis Prima and Blue Man Group and throws them directly at the audience as riotous surreal entertainment notable for "turning Civilians into Rockstars." The sound is tight, the show manic, the vibe all-inclusively friendly. They are on stage, above the audience, IN the crowd.

hello and thanks to those who answered my previous post re campgrounds. i didn't realize when i wrote that that the music at the fair ends so early, so now i'm wondering which campgrounds carry on the festivities after the fair closes each evening (but hopefully not thru the whole nite!) i'm also preferring to camp away from lots of families with babies and toddlers (no offense meant of course). would darling fit the bill to those of you in the know? thanks, sue

Will cook AMAZING food for fair pass!

Hello,

This fair fairie is in need of a pass this year! Other plans recently fell through and now I am pass less!

This will be my third year running at fair. Previously, I assisted my partner Tor with his beautiful Musical Furnishings. (www.musicalfurnishings.com)

What I can offer:

SOOO much love and appreciation!

I am a really hard worker with strength and initiative to boot.

I am really good at smiling and laughing too!

I can cook up a storm of delicious food!

Crafters: I have had years of retail experience

Stages: I am an aerialist and dancer of many years- been a part of alot of productions front of stage and back

Food vendors: I absolutely LOVE to cook (and bake). After dancing, it is one of my supreme loves in this life! I"ve cooked in large professional kitchens and for communities of 100-200 people (heartwood institute of CA). What also makes me glow? Serving good yummy food up to hungry bellies.

Surprise me with an opportunity!

Other things about me: I'm great with kids and worked as a nanny and doula for years, I have studied herbology and nutrition, am a political activist and community outreach worker. (I work currently with Oregonians for Health Security around creating a quality, secure and affordable health care system in Oregon). I love costumes and any opportunity to dress up!

I would LOVE to be a contributing light to the MAGIC that is the Country Fair!

so many kisses!

Ariel

Last year was my first year at OCF. So I'm wondering if the food vendors are consistant at the campgrounds? I Heart the Crepe stand that was at Zumwalt. What are the chances they'd be there again?

Anyone know? What kind of food offerings are at the other campgrounds?

Hey everybody,
The entertaiment shedules have started to trickle out onto the OCF web site.
While every schedule for every stage is not listed, this is a start.
I am sooo exited I could just twirl, well not really, at my age I might fall down and break something I might need in the near future. But you get the picture.
Peace Out.

Food Allergies @ Fair

I love fair, but I've just learned that I have multiple food sensitivities... unfortunately, this means that I must avoid all of my favorite fair foods (including the Toby's Tofu Cheesecake and Nancy's Frozen Yogurt that I dream about between fairs). I know I'll have to pack most of my food, but I'm hoping someone else with food allergies may have advise on food booths. There must be some tasty fair food I can eat!

A few of the many foods I am avoiding and expect to need to avoid at Fair, as well:
Sugar (and high-carb), Gluten (wheat, etc), Dairy, Soy, Pinto Beans, Yeast

Surely there's another gluten-intolerant fair-goer with some suggestions?

Thanks for reading. =)
Peace,

My friend Julie and I are coming to OCF for our 3rd year, and we're asking around like crazy to see if anyone needs some volunteer work or help at their booth in exchange for some wristbands. We love the nighttime fun! :) Last year was such a wondrous experience, but the woman we worked for doesn't need any help this year. If you or someone you know is looking for some super spunky, motivated, trust worthy ladies to help out with a booth, or anything really... please email me! :) I hope we can have fun fairylandia joy laughs together on the mystical magical trails!!!

Hey Portland-area Fairies! The OCF will have a humble little booth somewhere on the wilds of Alberta street this coming Thursday evening for the art party they call Last Thursday. Come on down! We'll have posters, t-shirts, and OCF TICKETS FOR SALE!! tell your pals this is a good time to get them with the fewest possible service charges. Not sure exactly where on Alberta we'll be, but look for the big colorful banners that are the hallmark of any good OCF presence -- just like us, colorful from afar and a tad dusty up close. ;-> The Last Thursday festivities are generally around 5pm - 9pm, give or take...

So, I've been going and working the fair for a long time. I would LOVE to work for the fair in some manner other than booth. I am a film freak and have heard rumor of a film crew that shoots the fair- I think that would be the best way for me to serve. Anyone know anyone I can talk to? It's the time of year when I should start working towards what I want to do versus ending up at my booth again just so I can be there. It's always worth it, but I am looking for change. Any help would take butt and kick it. Thanx!

Something Inline with the Fair Spirit!

Hey Fair Brethren~
I just thought I'd share something with all of you that seems to be inline with keeping the Fair Spirit alive all year long. It's a Powerful new program that deals with Helping the world in a very unique way, and can also help you as well! This is not Spam! Rather this is something i really believe in and wanted to turn you guys on to something really new and exciting!
CYA this July!
Peace~
Tyler

http://hubhub.hubhub.org
Hi Everyone!
As many of you know, one of our greatest missions in life has been to leave the World a better place than we found it! We were recently introduced to a new way to do just this; it’s called Humanity Unites Brilliance, or HUB.
HUB is rather new, in fact it’s still in BETA until the first week of June when they do their Public Launch and their primary focus is to provide for those who cannot help themselves in many ways! Tasha just got back from LA doing a 3 day HUB event helping families in need in South Central who could not qualify for other aid programs. In less than 2 days, they were able to raise and distribute over $100,000.00 in cash, goods and services for 5 needy families!
HUB is in partnership with some of the world’s finest non-profit organizations like Feed The Children , Agape International, Threads for Life, Kenya Water Wells Trust, Rain Catcher, Feed 333, Youth Action International, The Salvation Army, and Nourish The Children among others. We work as a HUB, a center, for these organizations. Some of our current partners focus on food, others focus on water. Additional partners focus on education or micro-lending. HUB connects all of these organizations and helps create a cohesive aid/empowerment package, containing food, water, education, and micro-lending, that can be delivered directly to field agents in chosen communities. Right now, HUB is focusing our comprehensive aid packages in Africa, creating an “extreme makeover” effect you can see village by village. In the future, HUB plans to include collaborations with health, technology, and ecostainment organizations as well, further empowering global communities with sustainable solutions. So, when you give to HUB, you are in fact contributing to ALL of the Organizations in the Partnership, broadening you scope of Humanitarian Aid. Additionally, once HUB is out of the Beta Phase, you will be able to track exactly where every dollar is going.
HUB’s aid packages are not exclusive to a particular location. HUB can re-direct this type of aid and swiftly focus on any overwhelming request, including those in the USA, such as a natural disaster, etc… The aid we offer is efficient and comprehensive!
Members also experience HUB’s faculty live! This includes people like: Mark Victor Hansen, Charlie Gay, Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Dr. Jean Houston, Barbara DeAngelis, Alex Mandossian, Chris Attwood, Janet Bray Attwood, FedEx co-founder Frank MaGuire, Elizabeth Jarosz, Marci Shimoff, Paul Scheele, Dr. Sue Morter, Marie Diamond, and others.
We are the new model for business and humanitarian giving: an economic engine to create a paradigm shift to eliminate suffering, hunger, and scarcity by creating self sustainability through exponential giving. We have the power to decide to change the fate of the world.
Join us in the natural flow we call sustainable giving. As funds are returned to you, you choose: 1) to use this money to live your life’s purpose; or 2) to empower even more lives through re-investing in a HUB charity gift or micro-loan program.
Thanks so much for your time & consideration~
http://hubhub.hubhub.org
PS:
Over the next 5 years, HUB’s goals are to:
1. Unite over 8 million souls and 5 thousand organizations dedicated to changing the world,
2. Empower over 40 million people through sustainable global giving, and
3. Create a self-sustaining organization capable of more abundant giving each year.
Our first order of business is to grow to 400,000 members. For perspective, when we, as HUB, reach this size, we will be:
•	Feeding 6.5 million children
•	Educating 6.5 million children in 12,000 HUB schools
•	Providing pure water for 22 million people
•	Providing micro-loans for millions of entrepreneurs who are producing products and services designed to benefit the planet

I have medical experience and just got all my red cross cards and my orthopedic surgeons card updated. I have worked in a med unit for the gatherings for a few years and have the experience to deal with just about anything that would come up at the fair. can someone let me know who I should talk to to volunteer? I will be at the fair anyway and would love to plug in.

Peaceful Free Tibet protesters in New York
beaten by cops... only making rounds on youtube
and not on "mainstream" media.
Why?

World Wide Drum Vigil

Community DrumKeepers,

We have the unique opportunity to Sound the Heartbeat Together in our MARCH 21, 2008 WORLDWIDE DRUM VIGIL. The GrandMother Drum International Peace Project and Community Drum Keepers will join together with:

1. The International Indigenous University: The Ceremony of 8,000 Sacred Drums.

8,000 DRUMS on March 21 at noon / central time
March 21, 2008
From the Otomi Ceremonial Center
Temoaya, Mexico

According to a Sacred Prophecy revealed at the Otomi Ceremonial Center by the Otomi Elder Sages as a Vision of our Venerable Ancestors, the day when the sounds of 8,000 Sacred Drums join together will be the beginning of the healing of Mother Earth, of all the species and the human family in order to be able to live together on the road to Sacred Peace.

It is time to unify ourselves and rediscover all the seeds of the Four Directions in order to reactivate cosmic energy, heal historical wounds and heal Mother Earth by respecting life, liberty and the dignity of our Peoples. The first great ceremony was held March 21, 2004 in Temoaya, Mexico and there will be drum circles joined around the world on the Spring Equinox continuing every year until 2012.

Sacred Principles:

*Sealing and healing the wounded vertices of Mother Earth is urgent.
*Identifying and activating the Indigenous energy centers at sacred places is our duty.
*Planting and strengthening consciousness of love and respect for our Mother Earth is everyone's work.
*The Indigenous ancestral recommendation to create and practice the Grand Culture of Peace and Life is fundamental.
*Recognition of the use of the energy and healing properties of our sacred instruments is a principle goal of our Indigenous Mission.

Fullfillment of the Prophecies...

500 year-old Otomi Prophecy...When 8000 sacred drums play together, an intense healing of Mother Earth will commence.

Inca... Call it the 'Age of Meeting Ourselves Again'.

Hopi... Predict a 25 year period of purification followed by End of Fourth World and beginning of the Fifth.

Mayan... Call it the 'end days' or the end of time as we know it

Maori... Say that as the veils dissolve there will be a merging of the physical & spiritual worlds.

Zulu... Believe that the whole world will be turned upside down.

Hindu... Kali Yuga (end time of man). The Coming of Kalki & critical mass of Enlightened Ones.

Aztec... Call this the Time of the Sixth Sun. A time of transformation. Creation of new race.

Pueblo... Acknowledge it'll be the emergence into the Fifth World

Cherokee... Their ancient calendar ends exactly at 2012 as does the Mayan calendar.

Tibetan... Kalachakra teachings are prophesies left by Buddha predicting Coming of the Golden Age.

Egypt... According to the Great Pyramid (stone calendar), present time cycle ends in year 2012 AD

Dogon... Say that the spaceship of the visitors, the Nommo, will return in the form of a blue star.-Courtesy of Bernardo

NOTE: 8000 Drums Magic Number
This number 8000 has a very special relationship.

It has been found that it takes a certain number of
people to start a shift within human consciousness.
That number is the square root of 1 per cent.

There are over 6.5 billion people on Mother Earth right
now and square root of 1 per cent is around 8000

So the 8000 is around the minimum number we need to start this
process of healing. Amazing!!! this prophesy has a number directly
related with our human consciousness.

As we do this drumming, we can also FEEL the HEALING
of ourselves and Mother Earth as if it has already happened.

In other words, step into that future where this healing has
already taken place and give THANKS to the CREATOR for
giving us this blessing.

2. SOLAR WAVE UPDATES

Do you have 32 minutes to CHANGE the WORLD?
The shift of the ages is just around the corner!

THE 14th Annual SOLAR WAVE 2008

Hi all you fair loving people

I camp at Zumwalt every year. Last year I went by myself and the people at Zumwalt Hotel made me feel so welcome and invited me to camp with them and I had a great time. Unfortunately I did not get contact information from any of them and I was wondering if they will be there again this year. I also want to volunteer at the camp ground; does anyone know how I sign up to do that? I can’t seem to find any contact information online.

See Ya at the Fair 2008

PEACE

The CAM (complementary & alternative medicine) college I work for in Portland would like to participate and provide a service in the Community Village at the Country Fair this year. I have the OCF booth application, but it doesn't seem quite right.

Does anyone here have insight or advice regarding the selection of participants for the Community Village?

All I really need to know is who to contact....

Many thanks!

Senate bill 1959
The end of Free Speech in America has arrived at our doorstep. It's a new law called the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act, and it is worded in a clever way that could allow the U.S. government to arrest and incarcerate any individual who speaks out against the Bush Administration, the war on Iraq, the Department of Homeland Security or any government agency (including the FDA). The law has already passed the House on a traitorous vote of 405 to 6, and it is now being considered in the Senate where a vote is imminent. All over the internet, intelligent people who care about freedom are speaking out against this extremely dangerous law: Philip Giraldi at the Huffington Post, Declan McCullagh at CNET's News.com, Kathryn Smith at OpEdNews.com, and of course Alex Jones at PrisonPlanet.com

This bill is the beginning of the end of Free Speech in America. If it passes, all the information sources you know and trust could be shut down and their authors imprisoned. NewsTarget could be taken offline and I could be arrested as a "terrorist." Jeff Rense at www.Rense.com could be labeled a "terrorist" and arrested. Byron Richards, Len Horowitz, Paul Craig Roberts, Greg Palast, Ron Paul and even Al Gore could all be arrested, silenced and incarcerated. This is not an exaggeration. It is a literal reading of the law, which you can check yourself here: thomas.loc.gov/home/gpoxm...955_rfs.xml

The bill states:

‘...ideologically based violence’ means the use, planned use, or threatened use of force or violence by a group or individual to promote the group or individual’s political, religious, or social beliefs...

Note that this means the "planned use of force to promote a political or social belief" would be considered an act of terrorism. This all hinges on the definition of "force," of course. Based on the loose use of logic in Washington these days, and the slippery interpretation of the meaning of words, "force" could mean:

• A grassroots campaign to barrage Congress with faxes
• A non-violent street protest
• A letter-writing campaign that deluges the Senate with too much mail
• A sit-in protest that blocks access to a business or organization
• A grassroots e-mail campaign that overloads the e-mail servers of any government department or agency

You get the idea. "Force" could be defined as practically anything. And since the "planned use of force" would be considered a criminal act of terrorism, anyone who simply thinks about a grassroots action campaign would be engaged in terrorist acts.

If you stopped someone on the street and handed them a Bible, for example, this could be considered an act of terrorism ("...use of force to promote the individual's religious beliefs...")

If you sent a barrage of angry letters to Washington about global warming and the destruction of the environment by the U.S. military, this could also be considered an act of terrorism ("...to promote the individual's political beliefs...")

If you believe in same-sex marriage and you wrote a letter threatning a sit-in protest in front of your state's capitol building, this could also be considered an act of terrorism, even if you never carried it out! ("...planned use of force to promote a social belief...")

The United States is on the fast track to fascism, and the Congress is working right alongside this nation's traitorous leaders to criminalize any thoughts, words or speeches that disagree with current government policies regarding war, terrorism, domestic surveillance and civil liberties. Simply speaking out against the war on Iraq could soon be labeled a crime. Merely thinking thoughts against the war on Iraq could be considered a criminal act.

Must-see video: Naomi Wolf's lecture on 10 steps to fascism
There's a video lecture you simply MUST watch. It's by Naomi Wolf, author of The End of America. She covers this topic with great elegance and a deep understanding of history. See her video on YouTube at: www.youtube.com/watch

Hi..... My name is Shakaia. I have had a henna booth at the fair for 4 years. However, I still do not have a place to call home. I would love to find a permanent spot to do henna at the fair. I would also love to know I have a spot for just 08. Even better, I have a vision of creating a henna den, permanently at the fair. It could be beautiful and have 2-4 artists, depending on the size of the space.
If anyone has any leads on how I can make any of these ideas work, please contact me at shakaia@omnivine.com.
I have been attending the fair for 13 years and have had a henna den for the past 4. I ameasy to work with and flexible. I now have enough experience with vending that I have a lot to offer in the vending process. Of course, I am juried in for my art.
Thanks and blessings to all.
Love shakaia

Hello to all,
I am new to this tribe. As a matter of fact I had never heard of the OCF until a week ago. 07 was my first burn and I truely loved the place but mostly loved the people. I came across this by accident and I am now planning on attending OCF in 08. It appears to be a lot like Burning Man. Is that a good comparision? What is the night life like in the camp grounds around the fair? Party like a rock star I hope.
Anyway, I would like to hear from some people that have attended both BM and OCF and hear their thoughts on the 2 festivals. Bye for now and I hope to get to meet some of you next summer.

There was a lovely group of faeires who sang and danced in the shaded food court area near Chela Mela Meadow. One lady was dressed as a Queen Bee in a power chair. One husband was dressed as a pirate musician.
We instantly bonded and took photos of each other. Such a fun group!

Somehow the parade came by and we wandered off without exchanging contact info!

I'd really like to contact the group.

Any body here on tribe know this group of faeires?

... anyone have any info on this way too cool mode of transport? My 4 yr old son at the time and I got a chance to try it out at pre-faire about 3 years ago (I don't believe it comes out during fair ~ it's impossible with the crowds.) But it's super cool, huge see saw that you can ride up and down as well as forwards and backwards and cruise around on. I think there were 2 riders on each side! We stumbled into the spectacle over near Main Stage area. I took some photos and asked about it, but can't find the pictures, and am curious who the owner was. So clever! A construction crew member's private toy, maybe?

Hi there,
I went OCF for the 1st time this summer and it made me so super happy! I loved that place so vey much! It was so magical andamazing! It gave me hoe, ideas and it made me want to be apart of the OCF family from here on out! The reason for this post is how do I do that? Who do I contact to ask how to be a volunteer? Or to be of service in the fire show next time? I have been a fire safety for 2 years at various shpws around the west coast. I have started to spin fire myself this summer and now I want to use my skills to help out OCF! I know it's early but I am enthusiastic and am looking forward to next summer already! I can't help it~! If there is anyone who knows who to talk to,or to write to, please let me know!
I am looking forward to a reply!

Silent Rave pictures and info from 2007

You can view the pics I acquired on my profile.

people.tribe.net/forrest_avery

If anybody else got any pictures, then I would be very happy if you would post links to them. I myself would like to get some more if they are out there.

Overall the show went off perfect. I was so busy keeping it all together; I had little time for taking any pictures myself. We had the neighbor complain, and they called in the management on Saturday night with hopes of shutting it down. Thanks again go out to Mermaid who had my back on the show, and to the rest of the management who were also super down with it once they saw what was being pulled off. I was never anything but nice and reasonable with our fellow booth owner, but they were anything but with me. I wasn't there for the conversation they had with management when they complained, but I wouldn't be surprised if they came off a little unreasonable in their request. That being that the whole thing needed to end right then regardless of the 100 people all really into what was going on, and actually doing their best to keep the noise level down. The reason it needed to end was that the crowd noise created was disturbing them.

About the crowd noise, as you walk around the fair, you are presented by a constant cacophony of sound. This mostly being peoples voices coming from all directions at various levels of volume. Also, with little else to draw people’s attention, most of the groups you come across are being very loud and belligerent.

It was a surreal experience walking towards the Silent Rave.

As you walk down the path surrounded by the above mentioned noise, but yet not noticing it anymore due to being constantly engulfed in the sound for an extensive number of hours by that time, all of the sudden you do notice it. You notice it because it's getting quieter, and yet what you see up ahead appears to a crowd. As you get closer you realize, that this crowd is all dancing, and yet not only do you not hear any music for them all to be dancing to, but you also start to realize that fair garble has been replaced by the gentle (and sometimes not so gentle) trample of the dancers feet.

You then usually (but not always, which doesn't surprise me anymore) notice one of 2 things.

1. Everyone is wearing headphones and dancing to the same beat. (could be considered 2 differentthings to notice, but most of the time people see these things at pretty much the same moment).

2. There appears to be a Dj stationed up inside that booth (a really nice one with great food btw...
oh yeah it's called the Caravan Cafe aka A Loving Spoonful) that everybody appears to be dancing around.

The order that these are noticed in, tends to differ depending on the observer, and some observers don't notice either, and just proceed to join in the fun. (Whatever the fun would appear to be to them... dancing around a disco ball, bouncing contest, etc)

There is at least one thing that is impossible not to notice. Everyone is having a fantastic time.

You are now standing in the middle of an actual dance party at OCF. You don't notice the cacophony (I love that word), you don't notice anyone being belligerent (also a pretty cool word), all you notice is the living reality contrast of the most going off party you have come across at the Fair, somehow simultaneously generating the mellowest vibe.

It didn’t take long for the management that did show up to hear the neighbor’s complaint, get in touch with Mermaid, and find out that I had in fact been in touch with someone working for OCF in regards to doing the show. I also explained that I did in fact care that the neighbor was being bothered (even though they were being obnoxious about it), and I was doing my best to keep the crowd as quiet as possible. Overall they were being quiet, and we are allowed some crowd noise, since our booth is open 24 hours. Once Mermaid did show up, she came up and told me they had my back 100%, and if there were any more trouble at all, she would go to bat for me. She then had the excellent idea of announcing over the broadcast via microphone (easily improvised out of headphones in a pinch) a pleasant request for people to keep their voices down and refrain from cheering. That was kind of a bummer, but necessary, and hopefully we don’t have to do so much shushing next year.

I can’t express my thanks enough to the OCF management for backing me up on the show. With all the time, money, energy, etc that I put into making this thing happen, followed up by the response of the audience and how happy it made them. Turning it off because 1 person complained would have been a serious bummer.

With every receiver and headset out on Saturday night for a good portion of the evening, we had around 100 people getting down, and at the same time trying to be consciously respectful of the noise they were making. Beautiful.

The tech stuff:

The transmitter worked great, but will work better once I rig an antenna to it. I found out that I can easily power everything needed for the party with 2 inverters and a couple 12 volt deep cycle batteries. Next year I will have more than enough power to make sure we have nice lights for the disco ball, and better lighting around the booth in general.

The receivers are perfect, and the Koss headphones where great, but the cords get all tangled. People rarely take the time to wind them up when returning them, and they quickly turn into a giant tangle mess. That prevents people from getting a receiver/headset from the intimidating pile before them. This was somewhat alleviated by having 1 or 2 people (I will be accepting volunteers next year) standing with the tables we put the headsets on, and taking charge of handing out tuned sets, and taking them back when people were done. I say somewhat, because even though there was obviously a person/s managing the distribution of headsets, people would still tend to just toss them at the table (and by default the person standing at the table helping everyone else with headsets).

It’s pretty hard to stay motivated to do something like this for people, when so many show an obvious disrespect or lack of caring in regards to keeping the equipment intact for the next listener, but at least people don’t steal them (usually). Hopefully with an actual schedule of people to host the headset distribution next year, we can prevent the tangle from happening regardless of the fact, that we still won’t be able to expect much from the crowd in regards to that matter.

I did determine that even more important then the DJ at this specific event is the headset host. Most people at Fair could give shit who is spinning, and are just stoked there is a dance party. Since they can’t by default hear the music that is being played, actually giving them the chance to hear it is all you need 9/10 times. With no other option for the most part, even if they are not that into what the Dj is playing, the format itself keeps them into it as well. The really obvious thing I’m trying to say is that the key to keeping the party going in this case is making sure the people can hear what is being played is far more important then what music is being played. That’s a hard thing for a musician to admit, but you need to have perspective on these kinds of things. I’m pretty sure a wise man said that… Maybe it was just me while I was intoxicated… Same difference.

With the above in mind, the star/s of the night at the Silent Rave from now on will be the headset hosts, and I’m looking to get volunteers that want to go all out in costume to do it for next year.

Much thanks go to Amy and Ryder for rocking it out proper all night on Saturday, looking fabulous, and keeping it cool while being swarmed by 100 kids all grabbing for headsets as soon as they were turned back in (usually needing a retune and detangle).

Anyway, I think I’ve gone on enough for now. Anyone who managed to get any pictures, or knows anyone that may have any, please post them, or hit me with a link to where I can get them.

Can’t wait till next year.

I know tribe isn't the most accurate research tool, but it is the most convenient for the moment. I also know it's written somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.

hey fair fam, yet another opportunity to slip away to another whirled. The 12th annual In-Didj-In-Us Gathering of the Didjeridu Tribe will be taking place this next weekend Aug 10-12th out in the Five Rivers area between Alsea and Walport. In-Didj-In-Us is a gathering that explores the many facets of didjeridu through performances, workshops, and fellowship, but honestly it's a gathering for fertilizing hearts. In-Didj-In-Us is a co-created event that is donation supported and loves your participation. Our one big tough rule is no alcohol, other than that it's pretty much 'love and respect yourself and others'. Info can be found on this gathering at www.bhumsiva.com The weekend following In-Didj-In-Us is another didge gathering in California near Yosemite, info on that one can also be found at www.bhumsiva.com

Silent Rave upgrades for 2007

Ordered(and received) a new Transmitter better suited for our intended purpose(for info on old transmitter see old thread). This one gaurantees at least 150ft of broadcast range minimum, and should perform better under more ideal circumstances. Ideal circumstances = outside without buildings and such in the way. So we should be covered for 150+ feet in our situation.

Also aquired 75 pairs of KOSS Headphones. These are earmuff style headphones of relativly good quality, so the sound will be better, and no swapping around the earbuds(yeah I know.. ewww). Along with the receivers we have left over from last year, plus some more I plan to purchase, we should have 75 Receivers to match those headphones. Just for a refresher. Last year we bought 40 receiver/earbud headphone combos. Some came with the headphones all ready busted, some people had on them the whole weekend and never turned in, some... well the point is I estimate we had about 25 to 30 sets available to people at any given time last year. This year I plan to make sure all 75 of the sets we have are checked and ready to go, and I am also going to be better about making sure people don't hang on to them when they are not at the party. This will allow about 3 times as many people to participate. I also know that more then a few people are planning on bringing their own receiver/headphone sets this year, so that will be even more ontop of the 75 available.

We should have a lot more nice decorations to add to the atmosphere. Pretty much have confirmed a top notch decorator to come out and set up some nice mellow lighting etc.

Carravan Cafe(where the party is located) will be open all night serving some nice late night treats for people to much on. This year year we will have a specific menu for the late night crowd. We plan to bring back our ever so popular and constantly requested Potato Corn Chowder, mabey add 1 or 2 new sweets, as well as some nice warm beverage options.

More Djs, and Styles of Music. We are still going to feature Funky/Deep/Tech/ETC House for the majority of the time, but we do have more Djs planned to be on site to play then last year to provide some more variety to the sound, as well as offer me a break from having to play the whole time. You can count on hearing some sets of Breaks, Drum & Bass, Downtempo/Trip-Hop, Mid-Tempo and more.

Look foward to seeing everyone at the Fair this year, any ideas anyone has that they think would make the Silent Rave better in any way feel free to post up.

Stolen CDj's

This Fair was such a highlight for me until Monday Morning when I discovered that someone had stolen my 2 Pioneer CDJ 100's. These were worth about $800.00 for both of them. Saturday was my birthday and it was a sublime day. we spun music in Marshall's Landing with amplification and monitors until around 12:30 with no real complaints. I was going to spin a bit on Sunday night, but was just too damn blown-out to make much sense of it. And then by Monday morning half my equipment had disapppeared, along with a friend's laptop computer that had been left in camp (luckily Michael Holdens equipment was not touched, as it was in a case in the same space.). So now I can't spin any music for the foreseeable future. I brought out my DJ equipment to spin the kitchen party during prefair and our own crew party last thursday. So in my attempt to provide cool dance mucic for friends and family, some greedy good for nothing freak thought they had more of a right to my equipment than I did, even though I paid for them. what a way to ruin an otherwise extraordinary Fair. don't know if I'll ever take any equipment out there again.

One nice fellow who I don't even know gave me $20.00 to start a fund towards replacing the equipment. I thought this was well beyond the call of duty!! So I'll open it up to the greater community here and see if there are more magick fairies out there who are willing to help. Any contribution will lessen the deep impact this theft will have on my finances.

Please mail checks to:

Jonathan Seraphim
PO Box 685
Eugene, OR 97440

Thanks in advance to any and all who can be gracious enough to help me find a way back to spinning music for the masses...

Hi all,

Sorry to bother you, but looking for a friend I met on Friday at the Oregon Country Fair, a tall, slender tantrika from Boise. She's not likely to have internet. Maybe you know her and would have her contact me back. I believe her name is Jaime, though I could have that wrong. It was a sweet, intense, honest connection. I'm neither a client nor a lover, just a guy who liked her and would like to hear back.

Thanks,

First Time at the Fair, I have a directional question

So, I'm so stoked for the fair. I'm looking at the map on the OCF website, it's a little vague, I mapquested it, and my question is, which block of Hwy 126 is the fair at? I mean I'm sure it's so big we won't miss it, but......

We're coming from the South, from Ashland, and mapquest has us exiting I-5 in Curtain and taking Territorial Hwy to Hwy 126. Is this the best way to go? Or should we go trough Eugene?

And once we converge onto Hwy 126 from Territorial Hwy, do I go right towards Veneta? or Left away from Veneta?

If anyone has some more specific directions. I would sure appreciate it! :)

Now I'm really confused. We've always been able to buy parking passes in advance but when I went in to Safeway in McMinnville today they called Tickets West who in turn said the passes could ONLY be purchased at the fair grounds.
Anyone know the real scoop? Will they just collect $5 when we show up?
Thank you!
